Introducing the Downtown Security Lighting Rebate Program

In an ongoing effort to improve the safety and security of downtown, the CCDA is pleased to announce the launch of a new security lighting rebate program.

Through discussion with downtown stakeholders and the Medicine Hat Police Service, better lighting in back alleys and parking lots has been identified as a significant need. After hours, the likelihood of loitering, vandalism, and crime is significantly increased in poorly lit areas. To help, this new program is designed to provide funding for downtown businesses and the installation of sufficient lighting.

Each downtown business is eligible for a rebate of up to $400 after lights have been installed. Through consultation with local trades, the CCDA has determined that the rebated amount should adequately cover half of the costs for business owners. This program has been fully funded by the CCDA and has a total of $10,000 to allocate towards this initiative. Registrations are already active, and the rebate will be available until December 31st, 2020 or until the $10,000 has been spent.

The CCDA looks forward to seeing the positive impact this program will have for downtown and to helping business owners keep their property, staff and patrons safe.
